Some shoots are all about capturing calm moments - beautiful soft light, wind blowing through the trees, perfect timing. And some shoots? They’re about embracing the chaos, rolling with the unexpected, and capturing the real moments. El's family session was exactly that, and honestly, I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
El, recently engaged and absolutely glowing, arrived with her fiancé and their sweet one-month-old baby for their first family photos together! A milestone certainly worth celebrating! But, as any parent knows, a newborn calls the shots - and this little one had opinions. She was fussy, she was crying, and she definitely had some strong preferences about how she wanted to be held.
And you know what? We made it work.
Kurtis knew the magic positions that kept her content, and in between the little cries, there were these beautiful, tender moments - El and her fiancé laughing together as they rocked her, those quiet seconds where she finally settled, and the way they instinctively worked as a team. Watching two new parents find their rhythm, even in the midst of the chaos, was something special.
The whole session was filled with love, patience, and plenty of laughter. And through it all, we captured exactly what we set out to - genuine, heartfelt moments of a little family in the middle of a big, beautiful new chapter.
I recently learnt that babies are born with over 70 more bones than adults! Apparently, as they grow, some of those tiny bones fuse together, which just blows my mind. This makes me even more in awe of how little and delicate bubbas are, and how wild it is that these tiny humans grow and change so much in such a short time!
If there’s one thing I always want families to know, it’s this: your session doesn’t have to be “perfect.” The best photos come from real moments - the cuddles, the giggles, the way you soothe your baby, the way you look at each other when you think no one’s watching. Those are the moments that matter.
And El’s session? It was full of them.
With love,
Jen
